Smugglers' Notch Inn - Winter

Return to a simpler way of life....

Visit quintessential Vermont, with its rolling hillsides, old family farms, and covered bridges, surrounded by picturesque mountains.

Smugglers’ Notch is a true mountain passageway, a gap between Mt. Mansfield and Sterling Peak. It is infamous as the route smugglers used to carry contraband and other goods to Canada in the early 1800s. It was also used by fugitive slaves escaping to Canada and of course, was a popular route for smuggling liquor during Prohibition. Today, the notch is one of Vermont’s most scenic drives and is home to rare plants and abundant wildlife, including the endangered peregrine falcon.

Experience the authenticity of the tiny rural village of Jeffersonville, with its old-fashioned friendliness and genuine hospitality. Our whole village on the quiet side of Mt. Mansfield is on the National Register of Historic Places.
